Entrepreneurs and start-ups play a pivotal role in the energy transition. New ideas and concepts are essential to accelerate the energy transition. But how do you transform an idea into a business concept? And what is needed to create a successful start-up? Today’s webinar will give you insights in the theory and practice of sustainable entrepreneurship.
Hendrik Thelken will introduce the theory behind sustainable entrepreneurship. He will dive deeper into how to integrate social and environmental goals into a profit-driven start-up and show some strategies to deal with possible conflicts between these goals. He will illustrate these strategies using examples from his own research with a special eye for start-ups in the energy transition. His story is followed by the practical side of sustainable entrepreneurship and start-ups in the energy transition. Freerk Bisschop guides start-ups in the world of energy with the company Rockstart. He will tell how they guide start-ups and support this with successful, but also less successful examples of start-ups he worked with.
Join us and you might be the next successful entrepreneur!
Speakers & moderator
Hendrik Thelken is a PhD researcher at the Centre for Sustainable Entrepreneurship at Campus Fryslân, University of Groningen. He is especially interested in cognitive aspects of sustainable entrepreneurial behavior. His work is therefore at the intersection of psychology, entrepreneurship and sustainability research. Exemplary research topics are intention formation in sustainable entrepreneurship and cognitive strategies for combining the triple bottom line or for solving goal conflicts related to that. Through his work he hopes to assist policy makers with stimulating the founding of sustainable enterprises and to generate practical insights for sustainable entrepreneurs on goal conflict management.
Freerk Bisschop has more than 30 years of experience in energy business innovation, in various roles (science, advisory, management, entrepreneurial, funding, governance, policy). Started, managed and sold energy retailer Echte Energie, led international energy&climate consultancy Ecofys as a CEO, chairs investment committee of Amsterdam Climate and Energy Fund AKEF. Currently, Freerk is a Program director of Smart Energy Accelerator since 2016, while having been involved as a mentor & investor in earlier 2 editions. Has a degree in Physics and PhD in solar semiconductor science. Freerk is convinced that the energy transition is beyond the tipping point of becoming driven by decentralized, decarbonized energy systems, with digital tech as enabler & disruptor.
Due to the Coronavirus we are, until further notice, not able to host physical Energy Learning Activities for our Energy Academy Programme. Instead we have carefully selected several webinars with suitable topics and speakers that fit right into the Energy Academy Programme as you know and love! Your registered participation in the selected webinars will count as a Learning Activity for the Energy Academy Certificate.
This event is a public event, open to anyone with an interest, to join in. The event is organized by New Energy Coalition for the Energy Academy Programme and is defined as an Energy Learning Activity for students of the Hanze University of Applied Sciences and the University of Groningen. The Energy Learning Activities are part of the Energy Academy Programme. If students follow 10 Energy Learning Activities and complete 30 ECTS in energy courses at Hanze UAS or University of Groningen, they are eligible for obtaining the Energy Academy Certificate.
